U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday
This song begins with a intro of instruments. They sing that they can´t believe the news of the day. So I thougth that this song will be about conflicts. I also thought that is was a call of piece. It became a more sadly song because families have torn apart and there is only misery. I thought it has happened real, because they sing that tv is reality. I searched on the internet and it is about how senseless the conflict and violence between protestants and catholics in Northem-Ireland is. I think that people still listen this song because it is about something that has happened real. I also think that this song is still populair because the song is about a interesting subject and U2 is one of the biggest bands ever. So almost every song of U2 is a classic.
Dolly Parton – Jolene
The song Jolene by Dolly Parton is a love song and it is about a women and her name is Jolene. The singer of the song asks Jolene to not takes her man, just because she can. Dolly Parton can not compete with Jolene. She finds Jolene a beautiful women with flaming locks, a Ivory skin and green emerald eyes. In the song Dolly Parton said that Jolene don not understand what he means for her. Jolene can choice all man she wants, but if Jolene takes her man she could never fall in love again. He is the love of her life. I think this song is still populair because Dolly parton has sung the song very powerfully.
The Rolling Stones – Paint it Black
The song paint it black begins with a guitar solo. The song is about normal things in our life for example bikes, cars, womens and houses. The singer of this song sings about a person. That person will paint everything black, because he thinks that black is the only thing that he wants. I think this person is depressed because he wants that everything is black and he sings very sadly. He can not life normally because everything is badly in his life.I think that people still like this song because there were used a lot of instruments in the song. I also think that people like this song because it is a very easy song to remember. The song Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones was also the theme song of the TV serie Tour of Duty. The TV serie is about the Vietnam war. The serie was on Us-television from 1987 till 1990. The serie was also on Dutch television and it was a huge succes, because of the succes they rereleased the single Paint it Black in 1990. For four weeks it was on the number one place in the Dutch top 40. This is also a reason why it still is a populair song.
Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall
The song Another Brick in the Wall begins so amazing cool. It begins with a screaming man and some scary sounds, the screaming man is probably a angry teacher. After the scary sounds, you can hear a piece where only guitar and drums are playing. The song is about school and about bad teachers who will heart children. During the song you heard a lot of children singing. They sing for example ‘We don’t need no education’ and ‘Leave us kids alone’.They do not want to offended by the teacher. In the whole song you hear a lot of instrument like a guitar, drums and a piano. I think that the song is very sad because children where punished by there one eachers. The video clip is also very strange, because you see only children with weird masks on their heads. But the instrument has made the song a bit more interesting. I think that people still like this song because there are many moments in the song where only plays instruments. And a lot of people like instruments in a song.
Bob Marley – No women, No cry
The original title of the song is “No, Woman, Nuh cry.” Nuh is Jamacian for “don’t,” This song begins also with a intro of instruments for example a drum and a organ. In the song ‘no women, no cry’ Bob Marley sings to the women he loves that she has to be strong and don’t cry. They live in a getto and thats tough. So he persuades his women that everything is gonna be alright so don’t cry. In 1974 the song stood on the studio album natty dread. In 1975 it was released as a single. This was a live version from his natty dread tour. This version is the most populair version of this song. I think that this song is still populair because Bob Marley is one of the best selling artist of all time. He sold more than 75 million records. You could say Bob Marley is the inventor of reaggea. Reaggea was born on Jamaica and was a combination of different types of music such as ska and rocksteady. I also think that this song is still polulair because Bob Marley is a big influence to a lot of musicians.
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven
The next song is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. This song is written in 1971 by gitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant. Jimmy Page wrote the music of the song and when he played it the first time for the other members of Led Zeppelin Robert Plant started to sing the lyrics of the song. I think this song is about a women who wants to buy a stairway to heaven. I think she wants to buy a stairway to heaven, because she thinks that everything is better in heaven. But when I did research on the internet I found an interview with Robert Plant. In this interview he explained that he was not sure where the song is about. In that interview he said: Maybe I didn’t quite feel the same about the lyrics a little bit later on in life as I got a little bit further down the road. Maybe I am still trying to work out what I was talking about…… every other fucker is. So the writer of the lyrics is not sure where it is about, so how can I know. I think this song is still populair because it is a special song, during the song you van hear three different parts. The song begins with a slowly part on an acoustic guitar. In the second part there comes a little more pace in the song and in the last part is the song changed in hardrock. I also think this song is still a classic because Led Zeppelin had a powerfull sound. It was a mix of rock , blues and rock and roll. The band was maybe the first super group ever. If you have a list for the best guitar player ever Jimmy Page is always in the top 10. If you have a list of the best rocksinger ever Robert Plant is also at the top of the list. The same thing you can say about the drummer John Henry Bonham. In the arrow rock 500 this song is on the number one place since the beginning of the list in 1999.
The Kinks – Lola
